1L CDO Services

The CDO team will support you through every step of the legal recruitment process.

The CDO offers the following services to 1L students

  • Appointments
    One-on-one counselling appointments to discuss career planning, job search strategy, cover letter and resume reviews, and interview preparation, including mock interviews.
     
  • Programming
    Workshops on a wide variety of topics, including skill development, recruitment related events, job search skills, and career paths and practice areas.
     
  • Electronic document reviews
    Written comments and suggestions on your application materials – no appointment necessary.
     
  • Recruitment events
    On-campus interview events, including the Law School’s Summer Employment Program (LSSEP), which has over 90 positions open to 1L students.
     
  • Opportunities to meet employers
    Events and opportunities to interact with a range of legal employers in the public and private sectors.

Lawyers Doing Cool Things with their Law Degrees

This year, the CDO is launching a podcast version of Lawyers Doing Cool Things. We have conducted in depth interviews with amazing lawyers who are doing fantastic and inspiring things with their law degrees. In past years, we have hosted a number of alumni representing amazingly diverse career paths. Check out the 2021 LDCT lineup.  Stay tuned for information about this years speakers. 

Leadership Skills Program

Being a great student is just one part of what’s required to become a great lawyer. Our Leadership Skills Program offers a series of workshops that focus on the core workplace skills required to succeed in the legal profession. Take a peek at last year’s program.  We are putting together an awesome program for this year - watch for details.

Future of Law initiatives

UofT Law’s Future of Law programming includes a speaker series, summer internships in entrepreneurial settings, and for-credit externships with law firms and start up clients. Keep an eye out for opportunities throughout the year to engage in this fascinating conversation about where the legal profession is heading.  The Future of Law Lab was also launched in 2020!  Reach out to josh.morrison@utoronto.ca if you have questions.
